When you have travelled in mountain ranges like the Andes and the Himalayas, and across great continents like Australia and Asia, you come back to Europe expecting everything to be small, and quaint. So it is something of a shock, as well as a delight, find that the Alps, in their own way, offer sights just as grandiose as any. Crossing from Turin into France, there is first of all an incredible new section of motorway through a series of very impressive tunnels interspersed with brilliant views. And at the end of it, the Alps stand before you in all their magnificence. |
